Was It Best For The Future Of My Job?

Tony Blair at his party conference came out with this line: "Even if you disagree with me, about my policy in Iraq, recognise that I did it because I believe it was best for the future of our country." Which sounds perfectly reasonable. Except if you change those italicised remarks to some other decisions from histroy, we find that the logic is blown out of the water...

Even if you disagree with me, about my policy regarding the Jews and the Holocaust, recognise that I did it because I believe it was best for the future of our country.

Even if you disagree with me, about my policy to gas the Kurds in the north of Iraq, recognise that I did it because I believe it was best for the future of our country.

Even if you disagree with me, about my policy to support Saddam Hussain in his war against Iran, recognise that I did it because I believe it was best for the future of our country.

Even if you disagree with me, about our policy to bomb the Brighton Hotel to get Mrs Thatcher, recognise that I did it because I believe it was best for the future of our country.

(Thanks to the Mark Thomas List for this idea - I thought it deserved a bigger airing).
