Niles Complains about the Backmarker

From Planet F1: Rubens calls for action [Monetary Fines] against backmarkers.
I'll choose option one, disagree strongly. Two rules have blighted modern Fun 1 talent in the past few years. The 'you can block once' rule and the blue flags.

Ken Tyrell once shouted at Martin Brundle that he could take months to find 0.2 seconds a lap in a car's chassis. Why was he slaving at this when Brundle had just lost two seconds overtaking a backmarker at Monaco?

Leaving aside the inherent futility of a statement like overtaking at Monaco, this showed up a skill that drivers had even ten years ago. Passing. If we banned the blue flags, then yes, there will be times that drivers who can't overtake (Rubens, Montoya, The Chin) are stuck behind a Jordan. So what? Overtake them, your car is faster!!!

Don't expect to get it easy because you're in a top team. Just get your head down and get the job done. And if the designers suddenly have to develop cars that can overtake from dirty air, with minimal aero downforce, then so much the better.

Don't fine drivers who don't down bow and worship the ground Niles walks on. Ditch the flags.
